loading SI-Drum Kit preset patterns

Could someone please explain how I can load a preset drum pattern (e.g. 'Jazz & Blues - 12-bar5') provided with the the SI-Drum Kit into a project? Many thanks.

jimmy..it needs to be in the timeline..first you need to insert soft synth..then si instrument...then in that time line drop your midi in

yes I have done that, and I can enter my own beats via step sequencer, but I still don't know how to load a preset drum pattern from SI.

Jimmy - In Track View, set up a midi track with the Output set to SI drums and the Channel set to a free channel (I usually use 10). Open the SI Drum Kit soft synth, left click on the pattern you want and then while keeping the mouse left button held down, move the cursor to the opening bar on the midi track where you want the drum pattern to start (you will see a small square box and + sign under the cursor as you move it). Lift your finger off the mouse button and the drum pattern will then appear in the midi track! It is then just a matter of copy and paste (I do this in Staff View) to extend the drum pattern for as long as you want it. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Malcolm.

And since they are groove clips, you can grab either end and drag them out as far as you like, not necessary to copy/paste groove clips, but you can.

Hi Greg - That's interesting as when I do it, they do not appear as Groove clips! Instead they appear on the stave as 'notes'. I actually prefer this as it means in Staff View I can amend the pattern where I want to by adjusting velocity and adding / deleting 'notes' to vary the pattern. Clearly this is yet another mystery of Home Studio I have yet to learn! Best Regards Malcolm

Hi, Malcomb. I just got SID this week and am still learning it. All the clips I dragged into the track view were groove clips, but I suppose there may be some that aren't.
Look at the track view; if the clips have bevelled corners, they are groove clips. I haven't looked at them in the staff view, though.

Hi Greg - Nope, definitely not groove clips! Having a quick look around the net, I seem to be getting the idea that SI does both patterns and groove clips. Patterns appear as notes on a midi track while groove clips appear as clips. I've never used groove clips from SI so perhaps that is why I am appearing so dumb! Not unusual!

Malcomb, I'm wondering if SID might be picking up all the MIDI patterns that come with various versions of Cakewalk DAWs and/or Session Drummer 1, 2 or 3 or other drum sequencers.
At the moment, I only have Music Creator 6 on this computer, but tonight I'll fire up the DAW which has MC 2003, MC Pro 24, MC 6 and SHS 6 on it to see if I get similar results as you.
In any case, you can right-click on any MIDI clip or pattern and make it a groove clip.

After much dragging of clips into the track view, I did find some non-groove clipped patterns in SID.
I wonder if the SHS 7 version of SID has more loops than the MC 6 version?

Hi Greg - Interesting. The odd thing is that when I use SID, every pattern is non-groove. I suspect SID is just taking one look at me and concluding quite rightly that one word that could never be applied to me is "groovy" (now I really am showing my age by remembering that word)!
